Youth Sports
Empowering young people to reach their full potential.
We believe that by stressing the importance of teamwork and teaching the Y's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith, our youth programs teach our children how to be good sports and good citizens on and off the court.
YOUTH BASKETBALL:
Hit the hardwood with the folks who invented the game - the Y! The YMCA Youth Basketball program offers leagues for kids ages 3-14. Participants should anticipate a program that focuses on fundamentals, good sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. Practices will be held once per week, with games taking place Thursdays and/or Saturdays. We try to honor all special requests but cannot guarantee that all requests are met. Game jersey is included!
YOUTH CHEERLEADING:
Our youth cheerleading program offers two age groups, 3-7 years and 8-13 years. This is an 8-week season, including one practice and one game a week, cheering on our youth basketball program. Cheerleaders will not only learn jumps, motions, cheers, and chants, but will have the opportunity to experience teamwork while gaining confidence through hard work and dedication.
YOUTH GYMNASTICS:
YMCA Gymnastics teaches children gymnastics skills, confidence, coordination, flexibility and strength. Classes are offered for children ages 3-12, levels being based off skill level. All classes are taught in a fun, safe environment using progressive skill instruction on gymnastics equipment. Every class emphasizes balance, strength, coordination along with positive encouragement from our Y teaching staff. Not only do we teach your child the fundamentals of gymnastics, we also focus on the YMCA’s character development traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Sessions are 4 weeks long, with 1 day a week classes.
Appropriate attire for class is a fitted t-shirt and shorts or a leotard. Clothing that is loose, skirted, revealing, hooded, restrictive (such as denim) or has pockets/loops are prohibited as they pose a safety hazard. No socks/shoes are to be worn.
