Whether you are looking for a great summer job or career as a professional lifeguard, the Springfield Family YMCA Lifeguard program is the place to begin! Through classroom activities, group discussion, online e-learning, and hands-on practice, you’ll learn the skills you need to work as a lifeguard.
WHY BECOME A LIFEGUARD?
Lifeguarding is not only a fun job, but it's a great way to develop leadership, decision making and communication skills. Certified Lifeguards are leaders in our pools and waterfronts and lifeguards help prevent injuries and are first responders.
CERTIFICATION INCLUDES:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
- Professional CPR/AED and First Aid
- Classes are in-person and online hybrid.
- 100% participation is REQUIRED.
Pre-Course:
- 300 yard swim breastoke or freestyle

10 lb rubber brick swim (timed test)
(no goggles allowed and must be able to swim down to a depth of 7-10 feet) -
Tread water 2 minutes without the use of hands
Cost:
Pre-Course Lifeguard: $10
Course: $210
Is the cost too much?
Work for the Springfield Family YMCA for at least 6 months after obtaining your certification and we will waive the cost. Work for us and also receive a FREE individual membership along with program and family membership discounts!
